Bone Grafts and Sinus Lifts in Hornchurch.

Where there isn't enough jaw bone for a dental implant, we can rebuild the area using bone grafts or sinus lifts as part of your treatment plan. CBCT-planned, done in-house, included in your written implant estimate.

Bone graft procedure rebuilding jaw bone for dental implant

What are bone grafts and sinus lifts?

A dental bone graft adds material to your jaw bone to rebuild areas that have shrunk or been lost over time, so that there's enough volume to support a dental implant. We use a small amount of synthetic or processed bone material placed via a small incision under local anaesthetic.

A sinus lift is a specific type of bone graft used in the upper-back jaw, where the sinus cavity above the back teeth needs to be lifted slightly to create space for an implant. Both procedures are carried out at Hacton Dental Care as part of your overall implant plan rather than being referred elsewhere.

When are bone grafts needed?

A bone graft or sinus lift may be needed if:

  • You've had a tooth missing for a long time and the bone in that area has shrunk
  • Long-term gum disease has reduced bone height or width
  • You've had previous trauma or surgery in the area
  • The CBCT scan shows the bone is too thin or too short for an implant of the required size
  • An upper-back implant would otherwise enter the sinus cavity (sinus lift case)

The CBCT scan at your free implant consultation tells us definitively whether augmentation is needed, what kind and how much.

How your bone graft works with us.

01

CBCT scan

Part of your free implant consultation. The scan tells us if a graft is needed and what type.

02

Treatment plan

The graft is included in your overall implant plan with a clear written cost.

03

Graft procedure

A short appointment under local anaesthetic. Around 30 to 60 minutes for a small graft, longer for a sinus lift.

04

Healing

Three to nine months depending on the graft type, during which the new bone integrates with your jaw.

05

Implant placement

The implant is placed once the graft is fully healed (sometimes the implant goes in at the same time as the graft, depending on the case).

06

Standard implant journey

Healing, crown or bridge fit, and routine reviews to keep the implant healthy long-term.

Done in-house, not outsourced

We carry out the bone grafts and sinus lifts at Hacton Dental Care as part of your overall implant plan, so you stay with the same clinical team and same fee structure rather than being referred to a separate specialist.

CBCT-led decision making

The 3D CBCT scan tells us definitively whether you need a graft, what kind, and how much. There's no guessing and no nasty surprises mid-treatment.

Often less invasive than expected

Most modern bone grafts use a small amount of synthetic or processed bone material placed via a small incision. Healing is often faster and more comfortable than the patient expected.

Sometimes avoided entirely

The angled implant placement used in modern techniques (especially All-on-4) often makes grafts unnecessary even where they would have been required ten years ago.

Honest assessment up-front

If you don't need a graft, we'll tell you. If you do, we'll explain why, what's involved and the additional cost so it's part of your written plan from the start, not an add-on later.

Long-term written guarantee

Implants placed in grafted bone carry the same long-term written guarantee as implants in native bone, subject to attending your routine reviews.

Nervous about a bone graft?

Bone graft is a phrase that sounds scarier than the reality. Most grafts are small and use synthetic or processed material, so there's nothing harvested from elsewhere in the body. The procedure is local-anaesthetic only, takes 30 to 60 minutes for most cases, and the recovery is comparable to having an extraction.

We'll go through every step at your consultation and you can ask anything you want before committing. If a graft isn't needed, we'll tell you that straight rather than recommend treatment that doesn't add value.

Bone graft questions, answered.

Is bone graft surgery painful?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic so it's painless at the time, with most patients describing a few days of manageable soreness afterwards.

How long does a bone graft take to heal?

Healing time depends on the graft type, ranging from three months for small grafts to up to nine months for larger sinus lifts before an implant can be placed.

Will I need a bone graft for my implant?

Possibly - the CBCT scan at your free consultation tells us definitively whether the area has enough bone or whether augmentation is needed.

What is a bone graft made of?

We typically use a synthetic or processed bone material that acts as a scaffold for your own bone to grow into, eventually replacing the graft material entirely.

Is a sinus lift a major operation?

A sinus lift is a routine implant procedure carried out under local anaesthetic in our Hornchurch surgery, taking around 60 to 90 minutes with manageable post-op recovery.

Can I have an implant if I've been missing a tooth for years?

Often yes - the bone may have shrunk where the tooth was missing, but a small graft as part of the implant plan can usually rebuild what's needed.

Are bone grafts available on the NHS?

No, dental bone grafts and implant treatment are not available on the NHS, so all such work at Hacton Dental Care is privately funded.
