What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a tooth-coloured resin that your dentist sculpts directly onto your existing teeth to repair chips, close small gaps, lengthen worn edges or mask single-tooth discolouration. The composite is built up by hand layer by layer, hardened with a blue curing light, then polished to a high shine that matches the rest of your enamel.

Unlike veneers, bonding adds material to the existing tooth surface rather than reshaping the underlying tooth. There's no drilling, no injections and no permanent change, which makes it the gentlest cosmetic treatment we offer and one of the few that's fully reversible if you ever want it removed.

Is composite bonding right for me?

Bonding works best when you want to:

  • Repair a chipped front tooth
  • Close a small or moderate gap between two front teeth
  • Even out worn or uneven edges
  • Lengthen short front teeth slightly
  • Mask discolouration on a single dead tooth
  • Test out a new shape before committing to veneers

Bonding is not the right answer if you grind your teeth heavily, if your teeth need orthodontic alignment first, or if you want a transformation that needs porcelain durability.

The Hacton Dental Care difference.

One-visit, one-tooth at a time

Most composite bonding cases are done in a single appointment, one tooth at a time. Quick, gentle and immediately visible the moment you stand up.

No drilling, no anaesthetic, no permanent change

Bonding goes onto the existing tooth surface, not into it. There is no shaping of the natural tooth, no injection, and the result is fully reversible if you ever want it removed.

Sculpted by hand, in your chair

Your dentist sculpts the composite directly onto your teeth, layer by layer, watching the colour and shape build up against your face in real time. The result is shaped specifically for your features rather than ordered from a lab.

Beautifully colour-matched

We use a multi-shade composite system that matches the natural translucency of enamel, so the bonded area blends invisibly with the rest of your tooth.

A great first step toward bigger work

Bonding is often the right answer on its own, but it is also a brilliant way to test out shape and length changes before committing to porcelain veneers later.

Honest about lifespan

Composite bonding is more affordable than veneers but it does not last as long. We will be straight about the trade-off and recommend whichever option genuinely fits your goal.

Real patients, real results.

Nervous about composite bonding?

Bonding is one of the gentlest cosmetic treatments we offer, with no injections, no drilling, and no permanent change to the tooth. The whole experience is closer to having a polish than having any kind of restorative work.

If you change your mind during or after treatment, the bonding can be removed and the natural tooth is exactly as it was before. We'll show you proposed shape and shade choices in advance and you only proceed when you're happy.

Composite bonding questions, answered.

How long does composite bonding last?

Well-cared-for composite bonding typically lasts 5 to 10 years before needing a polish or top-up.

Does composite bonding damage your teeth?

No, the bonding is added to the surface of the tooth without any drilling, so the procedure is fully reversible.

Will my bonding stain?

Composite can pick up stain from coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco over time, which we manage with a polish at your routine hygiene visits.

Is composite bonding cheaper than veneers?

Yes, composite bonding is significantly more affordable than porcelain veneers but lasts about half as long, so the lifetime cost can be similar.

Can I have bonding on a single front tooth?

Yes, and it is one of the most common things we do (often after a fall or trauma) and we colour-match the composite invisibly to the rest of your smile.

Will my bonding chip?

Composite is strong but not unbreakable - heavy biting or grinding can chip an edge, which we can almost always polish or repair without redoing the whole tooth.

Can I whiten my teeth after having bonding?

You can whiten your natural teeth, but the bonded composite will not change shade so we usually recommend whitening before bonding so we can match to the brighter end colour.
