When to call us.

Some dental problems can wait for a routine appointment. Others shouldn't. Call us immediately if you have:

What happens at an emergency appointment?

Our priority is getting you out of pain. At an emergency visit we'll examine the problem, take any necessary x-rays and, where possible, carry out immediate treatment - temporary dressings, pain relief, emergency extractions or a short-term stabilisation of a broken tooth.

If the full repair needs a longer appointment (for example a crown to replace a heavily broken tooth) we'll get you comfortable today and book the definitive work in as soon as possible.

What you can do in the meantime.

While you're waiting for your appointment, here's what helps with the most common dental emergencies.

01

Toothache

Take paracetamol or ibuprofen as per pack instructions. Avoid very hot, very cold or sugary food. Rinse with warm salty water.

02

Knocked-out adult tooth

Rinse it in milk (not water), try to place it back into the socket, or keep it in milk or saliva. Come in within an hour if possible.

03

Broken tooth

Save any fragments, rinse your mouth with warm water, apply a cold compress to the outside of your face.

04

Swelling

Cold compress to the outside of the face. Do not apply heat. Call us immediately - swelling can escalate fast.

05

Lost filling or crown

If you have the crown, a dab of toothpaste inside can temporarily hold it in place. Avoid chewing on that side.

Outside our opening hours.

If you have a dental emergency outside of our surgery hours, the NHS out-of-hours service is available.

Membership plan patients receive 10% off treatment, and significant follow-up work (e.g. root canal and crown) can be spread across 0% finance plans from 6 to 36 months.

Emergency dentist questions, answered.

Will I definitely get seen today?

If you call at the start of the day we will always see you that day; calling later in the day we'll do everything we can but cannot guarantee a slot, so call as early as possible.

Do I need to be a registered patient?

No - we see emergency patients whether you're registered with us or not, and many patients join the practice after an emergency visit because of how they were looked after.

Can I just turn up without calling?

Please call first - we need to know you're coming so we can plan the appointment around our other patients and make sure a dentist is available.

What if it's the weekend?

We're closed Saturday and Sunday - call 111 or the local NHS out-of-hours dental service on 0203 594 0938 for urgent care over the weekend.

Do you have payment plans for emergency treatment?

Yes - if follow-up treatment is significant (for example a root canal and crown) we can spread the cost across 0% finance plans from 6 to 36 months.
