Children's orthodontics.

Early interceptive and teen orthodontic treatment, planned to work with growth rather than against it. We don't start braces just because parents ask - we recommend treatment only when it genuinely benefits the long-term result.

The Hacton difference.

Early assessment from age 7

We see children for orthodontic assessment from age 7 to spot bite and jaw issues that benefit from early intervention.

Interceptive treatment when it matters

Some bite or growth problems are best addressed before all the adult teeth come through. We'll only recommend early treatment when it'll meaningfully improve the long-term result.

Wait-and-see when that's right

Where treatment is best deferred, we monitor with annual reviews until the right time. We don't start braces just because parents ask.

Modern aligner and brace options

Invisalign First for younger children, traditional fixed braces for teens, with the right one chosen for the case.

Coordinated with general dentistry

Same team for routine check-ups, hygiene and orthodontics - no shuffling between practices.

0% finance for parents

0 percent finance over 12, 24 and 36 months and 10% off for membership members.

From first assessment to retainer.

Age 7-9

Initial assessment

First orthodontic check, often as part of a routine examination. Identifies any growth or bite issues that benefit from interceptive treatment.

Age 9-11

Interceptive (if needed)

Where appropriate, early functional appliances or expanders address bite/jaw issues before all adult teeth are in place.

Age 12-15

Comprehensive teen treatment

Once all permanent teeth are through, fixed braces or Invisalign Teen straighten everything to the planned end position.

Age 15+

Retainer phase

Fixed or removable retainer to lock the result. Crucial - without retention teeth drift back over the next 1 to 2 years.

Frequently asked questions

When should my child see an orthodontist?

Most children should have their first orthodontic assessment around age 7, typically as part of a routine dental check-up.

How much do children's braces cost?

Children's orthodontic pricing depends on the case complexity and the appliance chosen, quoted at consultation with a written estimate.

Are NHS children's orthodontics available?

Hacton Dental Care is a fully private practice. NHS orthodontics for children is typically referred via NHS general dental practices for cases meeting NHS eligibility.

Will my child need teeth taken out for braces?

Most cases don't, but in some severe crowding cases extractions create the room needed for proper alignment - we'll explain clearly if that's the case for your child.

Are clear aligners suitable for children?

Invisalign First and Invisalign Teen are designed for younger patients and work well for many cases - we'll advise based on the specific orthodontic problem.

How long does children's orthodontic treatment take?

Comprehensive treatment typically takes 18 to 24 months, with shorter interceptive phases (6 to 12 months) for early treatment.

Will my child need a retainer afterwards?

Yes - every children's orthodontic case includes a retainer plan, because without it the teeth drift back over the next 1 to 2 years.
